Frosting for Rainbow Cupcakes
Betty Crocker Creamy Deluxe French Vanilla is my go-to for frosting. I use this store-bought frosting for all of my cakes and cupcakes. It is yummy, works well, is consistent, and saves lots of time (making and cleaning up).
Color your Frosting
I always use Wilton’s icing colour. It is a concentrated gel, so a little goes a long way.

1. Place a small piece of clear cling wrap on the table.
2. Spread a thick line a frosting onto the clear cling wrap
3. Fold once side of the clear cling wrap over the frosting and roll into a log.
4. Apply a twist tie to one end of the log.
5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 for all frosting colors. You should now have a roll of frosting for each color. Try to keep the frosting roll shape and size as consistent as possible for all the colors.
6. On the open end of each frosting roll, cut off the excess clear cling wrap. The opening should be close to the frosting.
7. Place all rolls of frosting, with the openings down towards the tip, into a 16″ piping bag fitted with a 1M tip. If you need help preparing the piping bag, seeHow to Prepare a Piping Bag.
Rosette Technique
1. Hold the piping bag vertically straight over the center of the cupcake. Squeeze to make a star. Then with consistent pressure, move to the right and go up and around the star, making a circle around it. It should overlap the star slightly.
2. Stop squeezing as you close the circle, then pull away following the same circular motion.
